What's "steepness"? I don't quite undertsand who the intended audience of the first message is? Why can it be interested in this story? Then, what all the mentioned facts are meant for? Is it the way to attract the reader's attention to the book? From what you have written, it can be concluded you think that being a mafia boss and involve in all sorts of illegal activities is exciting.
Message to your pal: why this choice of register? Are you on frindly terms with him/her?
More persuasive arguments are necessary to make your friend read this book.
